Kicking Sugar In The Peach!

Donuts
I don’t know why I torture myself with these pictures!

So I have candida, now what do I do about it?!

This is a combination of advice I received from my doctor, chiropractor and acupuncturist. This is what has been working for me. I do not know if it will work for you! Talk to your doctor or someone you trust to see what they recommend! We all respond differently to different things!

For starters, there is SO much information out there! After spending 2 hours at Barnes and Nobles, and of course surfing the internet (don’t act like you don’t look everything up!), I was so overwhelmed with where to start. One program said oats were okay, the next program said no oats. So I took down notes and then made appointments with all 3 of my professionals that I go to and trust. Divide and conquer!

Get as much information as you can and then figure out a plan that is realistic for you!

For the following tips we use the word decrease. If you can get rid of it completely, you’ll see results a lot faster and feel amazing that much faster! However, we are all at different stages, so do your best! I had to keep telling myself, “3 steps forward, 2 steps back” for a while, it was REALLY hard! Still is! BUT I am doing A LOT better. For example,  I was able to go to the Amish Market and buy 3 of those donuts, as you see in the picture (If you live in West Chester, Pennsylvania… Amish Market donuts is where it’s at! Go in the morning when they’re fresh…. ugh!), drive home with them in my car, and take a picture without eating them! There were a few close calls, a lot of sweating and self talk going on… but I did it! That would have been UNHEARD OF for me to do before. They would have been long gone before I even got home! So these days it’s more like 3 steps forward 1/2 a step back. As long as you’re going in the right direction!

I have “accidentally” had a sweet here and there a few times, but I keep feeling better and better the more I stay away from yeast building foods. Now I know if I have something really sweet I, 1. get a headache, and 2. I feel like shit (sorry mom, you raised me well, but I need to get the point across). Almost like I am hungover and get SO tired. It’s crazy. Once you feel how good you feel without it, it makes it easier because you don’t want to feel like that again. There’s a tip- When you start feeling a craving coming on just think about all the benefits you’ve seen staying away from it. Make a list. I made a list of all my symptoms and then later I made a list of all the positives I’ve seen.

Most people get candida after a round of antibiotics, because it kills all the good stuff too. I just ate THAT much sugar that I killed all the good stuff on my own, and didn’t even need the antibiotics!

This is what I (well, my doctor, chiropractor and acupuncturist) came up with:

Step 1:

Throwing out Chocolate
Just do it! Better yet- take off the wrapper and throw it in the trash so you don’t come back for it later!
  1. Decrease sugar, cookies, cakes, donuts, candy. Better yet get rid of it completely if you can!
  2. Decrease carbs and gluten. For example, pasta, bread, crackers, and muffins.
  3. Decrease starchy vegetables. For example, regular and sweet potatoes, carrots, corn, beets, and pumpkin (hopefully you’re not doing this in October with that pumpkin spice latte calling your name!).
  4. Decrease very sweet fruit. No juices etc…
  5. Decrease dairy.
  6. Decrease fermented, yeast, and mold containing foods. For example, wine (this was a hard one and I won’t lie, I have not been 100% perfect with this!) vinegar, bread, mushrooms (who knew! I was eating a lot of these, whoops) peanuts, and pistachios.
  7. Decrease caffeine. Sorry! Concentrate on the word decrease. 🙂
  8. Again I would definitely recommend eliminating instead of decreasing, but to make it less overwhelming we will say decrease.

Things That Are Ok:

  • This program allows Braggs raw apple cider vinegar.
  • Coconut oil or better yet fresh coconut. It has anti-candida properties. I am not able to partake in coconut because it makes me break out. Try finding a lotion these day’s without coconut. #needleinahaystack
  • Sweetener use Stevia … So according to this, Lily’s chocolate is okay because it’s sweetened with stevia 🙂
  • Organic free-range meat and eggs, and wild caught fish.
  • Nuts (other than peanut, cashew and pistachios).
  • Seeds and nut butter (obviously not peanut butter).
  • Leafy vegetables – zucchini, broccoli, asparagus, avocado, seaweed, cruciferous, and vegetables.
  • Gluten free grains – such as quinoa, amaranth, millet, and buckwheat. I’ve been having oatmeal.

Get The Yeast Out Of There!

Your goal is to create a healthy gut flora!

  1. Probiotics (work up to 30-60 billion/day).
  2. Saccromyces boulardii (5-10 billion).
  3. Raw fermented foods as you’re able to eat (I’m not able to so more power to you!) sauerkraut, kimchee etc…
  4. Digestive Enzymes.

Helps With Die-off

  1. Daily B complex (yeast free) in AM
  2. Vitamin C (500-1,000 mg/day)
  3. NAC (nicety chasten) 600-900 mg/day
  4. Optional- Milk thistle, detox tea, FIR sauna and trace minerals. Look into essential oils too!

Kills Yeast

  1. Candex. It’s important to start low and go slow. For example, 1 pill a day for 1 week and then 2 pills a day for 1 week etc…
  2. Herbs. Research and choose. You should rotate every 2-4 weeks
  3. 1-2 drops of oregano oil, swish around in your mouth and swallow.
  4. Liver cleanse is also amazing to really help your liver out with detox.

When you get those cravings just think of a fungus with eyes and a face in your body that you want to kill! Hope that helps 🙂

Personally, I follow the recommendations to decrease these foods 95%. I did the oregano, 1 clove of garlic at night (minced into water and slug down with a straw) read that recommendation in one of the books. I did the probiotics, NAC, Milk thistle and Saccromyces boulardii. Pick and choose what you think will work best for you! Diet is the most important! All the supplements in the world will not help you if you don’t change what you’re eating! While I feel so much better, I am still working on it! To be continued…

There are so many programs out there. Here is a great website my doctor recommended.

Good Luck!

  1. Heeey, just wanted to let you know that I’m so glad I came across your blog! I’m struggling with the same problem, also because of too much coffee and especially sugar!
At least it’s easier to know I’m not alone in this mess!
Looking forward to your next post!🙂 x

    1. Hi! Yes, sugar is SO hard to kick and coffee! Luckily I was never much of a coffee person which is weird since a lot of people say if you like chocolate then you like coffee! Let me know if you need anything! As of my latest blood test I am candida free!
